termchat.app: privacy policy

Last updated: 20 October 2026

What termchat.app collects

Nothing about you. There are no accounts, and termchat.app never asks for a name, phone number, email address, contacts, location or date of birth.

The apps contain no analytics, advertising, trackers or crash reporting, and use no Google services.

On your device

Your keys, contacts and messages are stored only on your device, encrypted with your password. Backups are made only when you ask for one and are encrypted the same way.

The camera is used only to scan invite QR codes. Pictures are not saved or sent.

Notifications never show a contact's name or the text of a message.

On the relay server

Messages travel through a relay: relay.termchat.app by default, or one you run yourself. Messages are end-to-end encrypted; the relay cannot read them.

The relay keeps: public keys, the time each key registered and was last seen; public prekeys; undelivered encrypted messages with their sender key, recipient key and time (deleted as soon as they are delivered, and after 14 days at the latest); the push address, if you turn on UnifiedPush; banned keys; and reports, with only what the reporter chose to disclose.

The relay sees who writes to whom and when, but only as random keys, not names. It sees the IP address of a live connection; the relay software does not write IP addresses to disk. Turn on Tor to hide your IP address from the relay.

Unused accounts are removed from the relay after 90 days.

Deleting your account

On Android: menu → Settings → Security → Wipe everything from this phone, then type WIPE. In the terminal: settings → security → wipe, then type WIPE.

This erases keys, contacts and history from the device, tells your contacts you left, and removes your key, prekeys and the messages waiting for you from the relay. Nothing about you is kept afterwards.

Other services

UnifiedPush (optional, off by default): the relay sends a wake-up with no content to the push server you chose. That server's own policy applies.

Tor (optional): the app connects to the Tor network, and to the bridges you enter.

Sharing

No data is sold or shared. If the law requires it, the operator of a relay can hand over only what the relay keeps, listed above.

Children

termchat.app is not directed at children under 13.
